When we are given a sign, we should pause and listen.
Thursday April 16th 2009: These first spring signs always make me stop as they are so special and I guess rather typical to Sweden. As you may know by now I like poetry and the way a line or two can convey not just a message but feelings too, these flowers very much impersonate that by their appearance. To see and feel these flowers come up in early spring is poetry to me. In a way they are simple, there is nothing flashy or spectacular about them and that I think is their beauty. It’s very hard to match pure, simple and true beauty, there is nothing you can add or remove without destroying it. These flowers like show the way “Don’t act, just be you”. They are forest flowers and appear in southern slopes aiming towards the sun. I think that their kind of beauty we all possess and it’s through our feelings it shows. If we pause for a moment and just show ourselves turning to the sun, we like these flowers will reflect beauty too.
These flowers are like gatekeepers to the woods and they announce a shift welcoming us to be a part of it. But how often do we accept that invitation? Busy as we are, we haven’t got the time. But there is not much time you need to spare; in just two lines they convey an understanding.
The ground and seed that made me, in light I stand for you to find.
In darkness when you can’t see me, I hide the light for you inside.
I know that there are flowers showing up earlier in the spring, but somehow they can’t match the feeling. I think that’s the light inside that makes the difference. Here in Stockholm signs of spring already have shown and disappeared, but those signs only herald for this moment. I have many favorite flowers, but they all have their time and moments and these you see here are more than spring to me.
The blue ones are called hepatica or blue anemone and they usually come up first and not that many. The white ones are called wood anemone and they can on certain places cover the ground. If you haven’t got these flowers in your woods or where you are right now, I hope they by picture still are able to convey a sign for you.
