When you have run out of options in you life, why not lunch?

Tuesday February 3rd 2009: Out of curiosity yet another stupid idea had crossed my mind, and as such I knew Marianne would fall for it flat. Absolutely forbidden and beyond a decent thing to do, at least at this time a day. But even so, an irresistible though. This about food; you eat because you’re hungry, right? You need food to live I once thought and started to wonder? The meaning of life; what for? Okay I had seen the movie and heard all those deep thinking thoughts that all sounded the same expressed in a language not possible to understand. Not for me anyway.

Life may be pleasant in every way till you discover that there are extensions. The route to happiness expands as you discover life and if you don’t stop up, like being satisfied, there are no dead ends and the route network you create for you and your partner can take you anywhere. Well, Marianne and I have discovered this little island and after several years now being satisfied with their fresh fish, lobster and almost everything they can offer, there was this small detail about oysters. I had seen them in a basket lowered down in a tank with live crabs and lobsters many times before and just a couple a days before I tried two out of curiosity and that did it.

So why not? Lunch, definitely, and the intention was not to feed us really, there was something else I and Marianne just had to do. Having bought a full bottle of champagne the day before we now entered the stairs down to town and then direct to the fishmongers. We wanted OYSTERS and after twenty minutes doing some additional shopping, we returned and got our oysters opened and prepared for us. The clock was about ten to two and we hurried back to the apartment. Lunch for two with a panorama view over the harbor with sun and all, we served ourselves oyster and champagne.

That lunch was not meant for our stomachs, that lunch was meant for our souls. Champagne can of course make you giggly and sort of happy and all that, but this lunch happiness will last. You may become old and forget about things, but our bodies remember these kinds of moments the emotional way.

You don’t eat a lunch like this alone, you need to share it with someone. You need to share it with someone you love, a person you can bring along on your path and at the same time a person you can follow. Marianne and I, even if we are the same gender today, we love being together doing these small silly things. A lunch like this expands our horizon and we see openings everywhere. We never let it go that far that we run out of options, these kind of small investments last long and we can’t live without them.

Life for us has changed completely, ripping of every bond there could be, but not quite all. When things were at its worse, all those kind of odd moments we had shared together made us stay together and to this day we don’t regret a moment of it. The lunch Marianne and I shared today with oysters and champagne, once again confirmed that.

So, never make a lunch short in any respects. A lunch can be much more than just food and eating.

Many hugs,

Li and Marianne
